A frustrating problem, at this point, most specialists we have seen are vaguely familiar with VCD but can only treat within their specialty. Some specialists do not have as much familiarity with VCD as the families who live with it. All are experts in their field, with little experience with VCD.

  • Speech Pathologist - Breathing exercises will help if your vocal cords are partly closing. Practice relaxed throat breathing as described by the speech professional.

  • Laryngologist or Otolaryngologist (ENT doctor)

  • Pulmonologist

  • Gastroenterologist - Reflux, esophageal or LPR. Don’t overlook bile reflux.

  • Psychologist - May be needed for stress reduction to rule out or deal with any underlying psychological causes.

This is only a partial list.  These may or may not be necessary depending on what triggers your attacks.  The professionals you need will vary depending on the individual factors that cause your VCD.  This is our list only.
